To keep those distracted eyes on our book, a simple book landing page is needed.

There is also the option of making a ‘book funnel’ to collect email reader addresses while making a limited-time book offer.

You can even pop in a BONUS, like a workbook, and get people to buy and load their ePub (or PDF) directly through PayHip, for a commission rate of around 5%.

Sign up for PayHip to sell any kind of digital products, including courses, eBooks, memberships, etc. It connects to PayPal, which is why there are two minor commissions taken. They don’t hold onto payments, they pay weekly. However, you must drive traffic to your product pages here.

When creating your book/course landing page, start with these questions:

1. What’s the purpose of my landing page? Have one clear call to action, like signing up the first video lesson, subscribing for a free chapter, or take this special fans & followers offer.

2. What am I offering my readers? — Not more information, but an ability to earn more, do more, be more productive.

3. How will my prospects benefit from what I’m offering them? — A strong “what’s in it for me”.

4. Have I incorporated the strongest selling points in the headline?

5.  Do my ideal readers know that it’s specific information for them? (e.g. While all cat lovers can benefit from Kitty Handbook, our focus is on indoor-loving cats)

6.  Can I summarise some of my longer paragraphs with easier to read lists?

7.   Does the design allow for ease of reading?  White space and Title case headings are proven to be clear winners.

8.  What do my readers need to know so they can accept and buy now…? E.g. is it a digital download?  Will you provide support for file formats? Is your shipping quick? Is your pricing clearly marked with the currency?

9. Have you put in your teaser line? (See point 3). This is the line that’s going to intrigue enough to read further, BUT IS NOT your book title.

Whether you are learning to write landing pages for your book or an online course, you will need to find a platform to build them on, and a testing methodology.

Landing page builders like LeadPages cost a lot to maintain. If you are not into paying $55+ per month for a landing page builder,  then why not check out your own WordPress template?  

If you haven’t built that yet, I hear good things about Thrive Themes.

Make the sales page clean, without a rolling header; have few menu items and lose the sidebar. You should, however, have an email capture form that appears for everyone (offering your first chapter/another eBook) and a privacy policy link nearby.

Use a big ‘buy now’ button or Amazon/iBooks buttons.

Selling with BookFunnel

There are many ways to sell ebooks or give away ARC – advance reader copies – with BookFunnel, but there is a cost to the tool.

Look at plans with The ‘mid-list author’ plan is probably ideal and is priced at US$100 / AU150 a year. (As you want to collect emails).

Ensure you are going to get your money’s worth if you pay for BookFunnel.

After I used BookFunnel to distribute the early reader copies, I found the product sales tool ‘Payhip‘ was enough, along with Draft2Digital and my website bookstore.
