If, like me, it comes easily for you to write, hurrah! — you can outline and set about writing your book. But it doesn’t end there.
If writing a ‘How to’ or Inspirational book for career/business expansion, you may need some help with the pitching and marketing steps. (There’s tools and resources for this in the Book Creation Success club).
Why have a methodology?
You need to be able to talk about your main messages clearly and to do this, it helps to input a system or methodology into your book. Otherwise it might end up a jumble of ideas — and people don’t need more ideas! Rather, they need simple systems to help their lives.
How to Finish Writing a Book
Many of us start writing multiple ideas out and perhaps proceed to mind-mapping based on a focus. Some already know how to build a Book Outline.
That’s a great start! After the initial creative session though, sometimes the wheels fall off and as a novice you start to question things. Is this the right topic? What sub-topics should be included? How do I know this angle will be popular? Can I even say that I’m an authority here?
This is just a normal part of being a beginner book writer. I went through it, as we all do. But don’t let these doubts derail you from writing this book.
Almost everything about books can be researched. In fact, in the Book Creation Success club we have a video that shows you how to research competing titles on Amazon.
You want to know that the book you’re forming will find a small GAP in the marketplace. This is not about category but about an angle. Some call it ‘a hook’. There has to be something your ideal readers want above all else that your book will provide.
Then, if you are extremely knowledgable on the area, you can also create a simple online course for your fans and followers to do. This can often lead to far more return on work invested than the book itself. Now we are talking!
What about those mindset blocks?
If other writers in your community — or a writing coach — believes in your ideas, it makes it that much easier to finish your book. Not only finish it, but be confident that making a fuss over it during launch time is all worth it. A writing coach virtually meeting up every two weeks will help rid you of the fears around your writing level, your capability to produce and finish the right length book, and marketing it.
You are writing a how to or self-development book, but it’s okay to admit when you need a little support and editorial guidance.
